Biography

Growing up in southeastern Connecticut between the Mianus River and Long Island Sound, my first drawings were of wildflowers found in our suburban backyard. My early education fostered my creative expression with mentoring by a gifted art teacher alongside inspiration from visiting artist, Corita Kent. Drawing and printmaking were my first mediums which later led to earning a BFA in graphic design from Rhode Island School of Design. RISD provided engagement and influence from artist David Brisson, photographer Arno Rafael Minkkinen, and designer Malcolm Grear.

Following two decades of working in graphic design, I furthered my studies in fine art through printmaking at Massachusetts College of Art. My artwork has included illustrating two children’s books, a large public art installation, numerous private commissions, and three solo exhibitions of drawings and paintings.

Fast forward to 2020, when photography organically grew to become a primary medium for my artistic expression. Living near Walden Pond west of Boston, I follow Thoreau's lead to saunter, ponder, write and make pictures. Spontaneously my writing turned into poems that inspired and influenced my imagemaking.  I live near a footbridge leading into untamed woods with my husband, artist/designer Craig Elliott, where we raised our now grown son, Sergei, who was born in the Ural Mountains and joined us in 2001.
